Many of you are taking great care with your nutrition by staying on a low-fat, high protein diet as you believe this is the best possible formula to support you during your training. First of all, congratulations on taking a conscious step with your nutrition – your heart is in the right place! However, it is important to look to nature when balancing various nutritional elements in our diet. In natural, whole-food sources (such as healthy grass-fed meat, nuts, seeds and raw dairy) proteins and fats tend to occur together, and this is the way they should always be consumed.
A high-protein, low-fat diet will rapidly deplete vitamin A stores, which is disastrous for the immune system and our natural ability to fight infection.
If you are training hard at Krav Maga twice a week, you need to support your body’s continuing health and recovery with a diet rich in nourishing, healthy fats. These include (but are not limited to) raw dairy from grass-fed, outdoor goats or cows, meat from grass-fed, outdoor animals, properly prepared nuts, seeds and coconut oil. Some examples of unhealthy, denatured fats would be vegetable oils, margarine and any other “factory fats” you can think of.
In the next e-newsletter, we will teach you how to make a nourishing recovery smoothie without the use of denatured, toxic (yes, toxic) MSG-laden protein powders.
